John D. Orr
Meet John D. Orr
John D. Orr is a banking executive, lawyer, entrepreneur and investment professional. Mr. Orr is a significant investor in the Company and serves on its Board of Directors as Co-Chair alongside Founder and Executive Chair, G Scott Paterson. Mr. Orr has over 25 years of financial services experience. He currently serves as an advisor to the Arena Group, the Kessler Group, G2 Investment Group and Applied Data Finance, and is Founder of Orr Capital Management. He is also Co-Chair of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Corporate Cabinet.
Mr. Orr spent the majority of his career at CIBC, serving in the most senior leadership positions across the bank. His most recent role was as Executive Vice President responsible for the group’s strategy and corporate development functions and its merchant banking business.
Previously, he served as a Managing Director in its investment bank, Head of CIBC’s International Retail Banking operations and as the Chief Executive Officer of two subsidiary banks: Amicus Bank, offering the President’s Choice Financial product suite (a national value driven brand, distributed digitally and through Canada’s largest grocers retail store network), and FirstCaribbean International Bank, a publicly traded, CIBC majority owned institution, operating in 17 countries, providing retail, commercial, investment banking, wealth management and insurance services through 3,400 employees in 100 branches and offices.Mr. Orr has served on numerous Board of Directors including Algorithmics Inc. (risk management), Alpha Trading Systems (exchange), Amicus Bank (retail direct banking), The Bank of N.T. Butterfield (retail and commercial banking), CIBC Bank and Trust Company (Cayman and Bahamas) Ltd.(private banking), CIBC Investment (Cayman) Ltd.(investments), FirstCaribbean International Bank (retail, commercial, investment banking, wealth management and insurance), Gorilla Capital (Residential Fix and Flip), Intria Items Inc. (payment and business information processing), and Juniper Bank (credit cards).Prior to his career in banking, Mr. Orr practiced law in Toronto, specializing in Corporate Securities, and is a member of Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Orr received a BA Economics and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario and a law degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
